Abstract: (6 Views)
The research issue in this study is to refute the claim of some Wahhabi scholars that the concept of monotheism is identical in the intellectual system of Sheikh Ahmad Sarhindi (971-1034 AH/1564-1624 AD) and Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab (1115-1206 AH/1703-1792 AD). The research method in this paper is analytical and comparative. Based on the findings of this study, it is proven that despite the verbal and general commonalities in calling for monotheism, there are substantial and fundamental differences in epistemological foundations, methodology, definitions of types of monotheism, scope and examples of polytheism, and approaches to issues such as seeking help, seeking refuge, and the position of the saints in their thought. Because Sarhindi's monotheistic system is rooted in Matridi theology, the Naqshbandiyya order, and a mystical experience based on the "unity of intuition," unlike the externalist, narrative-oriented, and highly materialistic reading of Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhab, which leads to an expansive definition of polytheism in worship and the excommunication of many common practices among Muslims.
